This position fills a critical role within a dedicated team of garden professionals working together to fulfil the mission of stewardship and preservation of Beatrix Farrand’s masterpiece, a century after its creation. This position reports to the director of gardens and grounds and is under the guidance and general direction of the crew leader for a given section of gardens and grounds.

This position participates actively in the daily care and maintenance and enhancement of the gardens and grounds; works independently or as part of a team, under the direction of a crew leader.

Salary Range: Salary Grade 050 $45,559 - $ 69,245

Architect of the Capitol

This Gardener acts as caretaker who maintains, protects, and preserves all assets of the Capitol Hill complex and landscape through the efficient use of allocated resources and sustainable practices. Also focuses on cleanliness and safety of the Capitol Complex. This includes but is not limited to picking up trash and debris, reporting any safety concerns and mitigating any safety hazards on the campus.

TREE CARE SPECIALIST I

Must have the ability to use and/or learn to use basic hand tools and operations of chippers, stump grinder, chainsaws, and ground operations of the aerial lift, basic knots, tree removal rigging, motorized winches, block & tackle, carabineers, and pole tools. Knowledge of ANSI-Z-133 and A-100 standards as they pertain to daily operations. Ability to perform various assigned landscape maintenance tasks that may include mulching, planting and brush clearing. Ability to drive and back a chip truck with a chipper attached. Ability to work cooperatively with others, understand oral and written communication and instructions

GREEN SPRING GARDENS SITE MANAGER

Fairfax County Park Authority

As the Green Spring Gardens Site Manager (Naturalist IV) this position leads a 31-acre accredited public garden that welcomes 100,000 visitors annually who tour the 18 theme gardens and natural areas and participate in a variety of educational programs. This position manages the Park Authority countywide horticulture program including other satellite sites (White Gardens and Clark House), the Fairfax County Farmers Markets, Gardens Plots, and liaison to the Friends of Green Spring (FROGs), Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Green Spring Extension Master Gardeners. The site manager at Green Spring Gardens will connect the community to natural and cultural resources through horticulture, education, and stewardship and will work closely with colleagues whose expertise spans cultural resources, archaeology, heritage conservation, and natural resources.

TREE OPERATIONS CREW MEMBER

The Tree Operations Crew Member performs a variety of field operations for all tree planting, care and related activities.  This crew member should have a “roll up your sleeves” attitude and enjoy working outside throughout the DMV. Our crew members works with internal/external stakeholders, including other Casey Trees departments, community volunteers, etc.  This is a full-time, year-round position with competitive benefits upon hire.

Horticulture Foreman (New)

The Horticulture Foreman (Foreman) is responsible for the proper execution of all planting, plant care and related activities, including managing all field operations and logistics. The Foreman leads by example, managing the Crew Chiefs and Crew in all day-to-day operations. The incumbent supervises field activities, ensures efficient and effective operations, directs staff, maintains vehicles, tools, and equipment, and solves challenges encountered to ensure continual process improvement. This position reports directly to the Design & Horticulture Manager with significant coordination from the Field Manager and coordinates with other arborists, planting crews, and members of other departments.

Salary Range: $75,000.00 To $85,000.00 Annually

FARM CREW  (New)

The Farm Crew member performs a wide range of hands-on tasks, including but not limited to tree production, grounds and facilities maintenance, equipment maintenance/repair, etc. This incumbent is expected to learn and apply tree nursery production techniques and other tasks, enjoy working out-of-doors in all seasons, be punctual, and ready and willing to conduct all assigned tasks.
